Celebration set on Buddha's birthdayThe West Maui Buddhist community will celebrate the birth of the historical Buddha, Siddhartha Gautama (observed on April 8), at the Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, 551 Wainee St., with a service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday.Celebrated in the Japanese Buddhist tradition as Hanamatsuri, or Flower Festival, a statuette of the baby Buddha is enshrined in a flower altar, symbolizing Lumbini Flower Garden where the baby was born. The Rev.
