Interfaith service to be held MondayFaith Action for Community Equity Maui invites the public to attend its annual Martin Luther King Day Interfaith Service at 6 p.m. Monday.The 90-minute service will take place at Christ the King Church, 20 W. Wakea Ave. in Kahului. The service will feature choirs, scripture readings and a keynote address by the Rev. Paul Sherry, author of the 1993 Apology to Native Hawaiians on behalf of the United Church of Christ.Sherry is also an accomplished civil rights leader active in the civil rights movement of the 1960s, according to a news release about the event.

Christian preschool opening 2nd location

Smart Start Christian Preschool is opening its second location March 1 at 55 Makawao Ave., the preschool announced.For seven years, the preschool has operated in Kihei with an outdoor classroom setting, the school announced.The school's new Upcountry campus "is on plush grounds that allow children the natural play of outdoors while also offering a very comforting home-based feeling indoors."The school offers two-, three- or five-day per week programs for children ranging in age from 2 to those just preparing to enter kindergarten.At the preschool, children are challenged "by creating ...

The nonprofit community service group A Cup of Cold Water has announced its board of directors for 2015.Its president is Kekuhaupi'o Akana. Other officers include treasurer John Decker and secretary Mary Lou Mellinger.The board of directors includes Paula Baldwin, Jeanne Abe, Deb Lynch, Jeanne Fiddes and Mark Sitts.Spiritual support comes from the Rev. Linda Decker and the Rev.
