An aukuu, or black-crowned night heron, chases away the competition and then, minutes later, catches a tilapia earlier this month in the shallows at Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge. The fish was quickly swallowed whole. After being closed for the duration of the partial federal government shutdown and avoiding a second one, the refuge is back open to the public.
