One of the best ‘feel good’ gifts can help save lives

This is the time of year when people are looking for ways to “feel good” and one of the most popular is to give presents to family members and friends. Sadly, spending money for presents does not guarantee that the recipients will necessarily appreciate the gifts that they receive. On the other hand, if you donate a pint of blood, you can be assured that your gift will be appreciated by up to three people — recipients whose lives you may help to save.

This year’s donors will be surprised and thrilled with the “Christmas spirit” that will be waiting for them when they share their precious pint of blood. Portuguese bean soup, bread pudding, ginger bread cookies and other treats will be part of the Christmas party that will be going on at the Blood Bank’s collection center.

A retired Maui Economic Opportunity employee was very grateful when her son was seriously injured in an accident and the Blood Bank came through with all the blood that he needed to fully recover. Consequently, to show her family’s deep appreciation for how the blood donors came through in their hour of need, she will be hosting the Christmas party that will be held at the Blood Bank’s donation center at the MEO headquarters.

The blood drive will be held on Maui for Monday-Friday, Dec. 17-21. If you are in the Christmas spirit to donate a pint of the gift of life, please call (808) 848-4770 to make an appointment.
