Rotary Club to host Flags for Our Heroes event Nov. 7-8

The Rotary Club of Wailuku will host Flags for Our Heroes on Nov. 7-8 at the Maui Tropical Plantation front field, honoring military members, veterans, first responders, teachers, health care workers and others who have made a difference in the community. The event will feature a display of American flags, with individual flags available for sponsorship at $50 each. Each flag will include a personalized medallion identifying the honoree and sponsor. Nearly 12,000 Maui County ballots returned ahead of election

Nearly 12,000 ballots had been returned by Maui County voters as of Friday, according to the Maui County Clerk's Office. The county has 117,689 registered voters. Voters can return their ballots at official ballot dropboxes or by mail. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. Nov. 3 to be counted. The clerk's office recommends mailing ballots no later than Oct. 27 to help ensure they arrive before the deadline. Kihei wastewater pump station repaired; Kalama Park advisory lifted

Repairs to Kihei Wastewater Pump Station No. 6 were completed early Friday morning following a wastewater overflow on Thursday, according to the Maui County Department of Environmental Management. County crews remained on site conducting cleanup. The request for South Maui residents and businesses to conserve water has been lifted. The north end of Kalama Park, including parking lots, tennis and basketball courts, Little League baseball fields and the pavilion, was closed Friday morning while crews cleaned and sanitized the area.
