Fire crews respond to diver in distress
A scuba diver in distress near Mala Wharf was brought to shore Saturday afternoon after she became separated from her diving group, a fire official said.
Firefighters were called to help in the rescue at 12:57 p.m.
A witness on the beach called 911 after the 28-year-old woman ended up on a shallow reef, said fire Assistant Chief Val Martin.
When firefighters arrived, she was waving her arms, he said. A lifeguard on a rescue watercraft and a firefighter on a surfboard helped bring the woman to shore, Martin said.
She didn’t need medical treatment.
