Wind, small-craft advisories in effect for county

A wind advisory for the Haleakala summit remains in effect until 6 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. The notice means that sustained winds of at least 45 mph and up to 55 mph, with localized gusts over 60 mph, are expected, and motorists should use caution.

A small-craft advisory for Maui County leeward waters is also in place until 6 p.m., where wind speeds of 25 to 33 knots and seas of 7 to 10 feet are anticipated, creating hazardous conditions for smaller vessels, the service said.

Rain totals were highest in the county on parts of Maui island, with Puu Kukui recording 0.81 inches, Hana Airport saw 0.43 inches and Wailuku had 0.42 inches in the 24-hour period ending at 4 p.m. Saturday, according to NWS.
