A wildfire that started Wednesday above Maa-laea and burned over the pali was declared contained Monday morning, according to the Maui Fire Department.
The department said it used new technology to determine that 4,600 acres burned, rather than the initial estimate of 4,100 acres.
The department asked the public to stay out of the burned area because of hazards.
Fire crews are continuing to make checks of the area, which includes smoldering kiawe and vegetation that are “located well within the control lines,” the Fire Department said.
