Woman helped up trail Sunday night
A 70-year-old woman was assisted by firefighters and Haleakala National Park rangers in making it back up the Halemauu Trail on Sunday night, a fire official said.
Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said Monday that around 7:43 p.m. Sunday there were reports of two women, 33 and 70 years old, who were having difficulty making their way back up the Halemauu Trail.
A crew from Kula Fire Station and rangers located the women. Personnel put the 70-year-old lady in a rescue basket and carried her up the trail, Yatsushiro said.
The 33-year-old woman did not need assistance. Both hikers were exhausted but did not require further medical attention. Units left the scene at 11:38 p.m.
