Public meetings on bridge updates set
State and federal officials will be holding public meetings to discuss a project to upgrade six historic bridges on Hana Highway.
As the second in a series of public meetings, the talks will discuss Kailua (Mile Marker 5.9), Makanali (8.2), Puohokamoa (11), Kopiliula (21.7), Ulaino (27.9) and Mokulehua (28.3) stream bridges, which have been identified by the state Department of Transportation as high priority.
Public informational meetings will be held at 5 p.m. for the following days and locations:
• Jan. 14, Hana Community Center, 5091 Uakea Road.
• Jan. 15, Keanae Congregational Church, 13705 Hana Highway.
• Jan. 16, Paia Community Center, 252 Hana Highway.
The project, a partnership between the state DOT and the Federal Highway Administration’s Central Federal Lands Highway Division, will improve the six bridges in a “context-sensitive manner so they are safe and functional for highway users,” an announcement said.
