Kula farmer Jemma Escobedo (right) talks with fellow vendor Rojelio Dela Cruz of Makawao as the Upcountry Farmer’s Market winds down Saturday morning at the Kulamalu Town Center in Pukalani. Escobedo said she and husband Noel Escobedo have seen business drop due to the pandemic. “Because we deal mostly with the wholesalers, our market is down about 70 percent,” Jemma said. She said her produce used to go to the hotels and restaurants. “We only grew four crops.” Now, she says, they have expanded to include new crops like strawberries, cucumbers, basil, parsley, broccoli, beets and radishes as they try to serve local customers.
