Man caught driving stolen pickup truck

A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday after he was seen driving a stolen pickup truck, according to police.
Mana Kapela was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, second-degree theft and fourth-degree theft. His bail was set at $1,000.
The 2003 Nissan Frontier pickup truck was reported stolen between 1 and 2 p.m. Monday while it was parked fronting Waterfront Apartments on Vevau Street in Kahului. Shortly before 6 p.m. that day, the owner reported seeing a man, later identified as Kapela, driving the truck from the Walmart parking lot to the Lowe’s parking lot in Kahului, according to police.
Officers were searching the vehicle when they found an iPhone and vape that had been stolen from a vehicle while it was parked at Kahului Shopping Center between 2:10 and 2:20 p.m. Monday.
Police also reported recovering a Honda street bike that had been reported stolen.
