State to host meeting on historic preservation plan
The Maui News
The second in a series of public meetings on the Statewide Historic Preservation Plan will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 8, the State Historic Preservation Division announced.
The five-year strategic plan aims to guide the division and create goals for historic preservation in the state. Hawaii must complete the plan in order to remain eligible for federal funds from the National Park Service.
Historic properties include, but are not limited to: historic buildings, archaeological sites, burials, aviation artifacts, cultural landscapes, historic districts such as Chinatown, lo’i, fishponds, heiau and traditional cultural properties.
Community input is welcome and will help the state develop future-focused and topical public meetings.
To provide public testimony during the Feb. 8 meeting, RSVP by emailing dlnr.hp.preservationplan@hawaii.gov by 5:30 p.m. Monday. Public testimony will be limited to three minutes. Written testimony can also be emailed to the same address. A link to the Zoom meeting, with the meeting ID and passcode, is available at dlnr.hawaii.gov/ shpd.
A third public meeting will be held in March, with the date and time to be determined. To be notified of upcoming meetings, contact SHPD through the preservation plan email address.
