Hazard plan input deadline nears

Members of the public have until Tuesday to provide comments on a plan that aims to reduce the hazards of natural disasters in Hawaii.

The State Hazard Mitigation Plan will be used to guide work in the years ahead to address the risks of flooding, hurricanes, wildfires and other hazards. The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency has been collecting public input on the new plan since December, including through a series of meetings across the state starting last month.

To view the draft version of the plan, which was published last week, visit dod.hawaii.gov/hiema/draft-2023-state-hazard-mitigation-plan/. Feedback can be provided via a survey link on the website.

A final public meeting on the plan will be held on Oahu at 5 p.m. today; to join the meeting online, visit bit.ly/44pgzLl.

Starting at $4.62/week.
