All Maui County office closed Monday due to storm

At the direction of Gov. Josh Green, county offices are closed statewide on Monday, Aug. 17. All emergency and recovery operations associated with this weather event will continue. All Maui County offices on Maui, Molokai and Lanaʻi are closed Monday. Only essential personnel were asked to report to work. About 28,700 Maui County customers without power Sunday morning

Approximately 28,700 Maui County customers were without power as of 7 a.m. Sunday due to Tropical Storm Lala, according to Hawaiian Electric. The outages affected all of West Maui, parts of Upcountry, South and Central Maui and Haiku, as well as areas of Lanai and Molokai. Hawaiian Electric said crews were beginning damage assessments in accessible areas of Maui County, Hawaii Island and Oahu before restoration work could proceed. Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter closed due to flooding

As of 1:30 a.m. Sunday, the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center shelter in Pukalani has been closed due to flooding. Because of the flooding, the center is not available for residents seeking shelter. Residents who need a safe place to go should proceed to the next nearest available shelter that can be safely reached.
