MEO transportation services resumed on Sunday

Following modified operations on Saturday, Aug. 15, due to severe weather, Maui Economic Opportunity transportation services will resume as follows: • The Maui Bus ADA Paratransit services resumed normal operations at 10 a.m. Sunday, August 16. • Human Services transportation, including services in Hana, Molokai and Lanai, resumed normal operations on Monday, Aug. 17, subject to road conditions. All Hawaii public schools closed Monday, Aug. 17, following Lala

All Hawaii public schools and state Department of Education offices will be closed Monday, Aug. 17, as officials assess damage and other impacts from Hurricane Lala. Students should not report to their campuses. Only department employees supporting safety assessments and preparations for reopening should report to work sites. Supervisors will contact employees who need to report. Council committee meetings canceled, legislative offices closed Monday

Maui County Council committee meetings scheduled for Monday, Aug. 17, have been canceled, and county legislative offices will be closed as employees and residents deal with the aftermath of Tropical Storm Lala. The Water Authority, Social Services and Parks Committee was scheduled to meet at 10 a.m., followed by the Water and Infrastructure Committee at 1:30 p.m. The Office of the County Auditor, Office of the County Clerk and Office of Council Services also will be closed Monday. Rotary Club to host presentation on acupuncture, family wellness

Maluhia Maui Rotary Club will host a presentation by licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist Jill Stevens at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at South Maui Gardens in Kihei. Stevens will discuss acupuncture, holistic medicine and their potential roles in individual and family wellness. About 7,000 Maui County customers without power Sunday night

Approximately 7,000 Maui County customers remained without power as of 7 p.m. Sunday while Hawaiian Electric crews continued damage assessments and repairs following Tropical Storm Lala. The outages were concentrated in Kula, Haiku, Olinda and Piiholo, where large fallen trees and debris damaged electrical infrastructure. A few isolated outages remained in West, Central and South Maui.
