Taste of Upcountry fundraiser set for Sept. 12

Montessori School of Maui will host its Taste of Upcountry fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 at the school’s Makawao campus. The event will benefit the school’s tuition-assistance programs, including its Hawaiian Scholarship Fund. More than 30% of Montessori School of Maui students receive tuition support, according to the school. The evening will include music by Isles Away, a performance by the dancers of Wehiwehi O Leilehua and live and silent auctions. FANCON gaming fair set for Sept. 12

Queen Kaʻahumanu Center will host FANCON, a free gaming and fan-culture fair, from 2 to 8 p.m. Sept. 12. The all-ages event will feature board games, role-playing games, trading card games, esports, miniature gaming and painting, cosplay, demonstrations, crafts and giveaways. Kihei association plans candidate debate Sept. 15

The Kihei Community Association will host a candidate debate from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at ProArts Playhouse, 1280 South Kihei Road. The event will feature candidates in four general election races. Terez Amato and Sheila Walker will discuss the state House race, while Marvin Moniz and Ashley Lindsey will appear for the Wailuku residency seat on the Maui County Council. Baldwin football captures 16-6 win over Kamehameha Maui

The Baldwin Bears won their third straight Maui Interscholastic League football game, defeating Kamehameha Maui 16-6 on Sept. 4 at Kamehameha Maui. The loss put the Warriors’ record at 2-1 against MIL opponents, while the Bears improved to 3-0. MIL football: King Kekaulike defeats Maui High 36-12

King Kekaulike returned to action Sept. 5 at home and defeated Maui High 36-12 in a Maui Interscholastic League football game. The victory improved Kekaulike’s record to 2-1 in MIL contests, while Maui High fell to 1-2. Kekaulike opened the scoring when quarterback Slade Kamaunu took the snap from the 18-yard line, stepped up in the pocket under pressure and found Makahinu Au streaking toward the end zone for a touchdown.
