Hawaii public school students showed continued progress in mathematics and attendance during the 2025-26 school year, with proficiency levels in math and language arts approaching pre-pandemic levels, according to the state Department of Education's latest Strive HI results. Wailuku Film Festival opens submissions for 2027 event The Wailuku Film Festival is accepting submissions for its second annual event, which is scheduled for mid-June. The festival will feature six film categories: Hawaii, indigenous voices, watersports, student films, animation and ocean conservation. Animation and ocean conservation are new categories for 2027. Early-bird submissions will be accepted at discounted rates through Jan. 1. General submissions close April 1, while student films may be submitted through May 1.
