The Haiku Community Association will host a candidate forum and receive a county update on speed bumps during its regular monthly meeting Wednesday, July 29, at the Haiku Community Center. The meeting is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. Association President Lucienne De Naie said the first half-hour will be set aside for the county and association to discuss concerns about the number of speed bumps being installed on rural roads.
Maui County Department of Environmental Management is partnering with Aloha Recycling in Kahului to provide temporary recycling drop-off services. Four people, including three teens, have been arrested in connection with an assault and riot July 17 at a resort pool area in Lahaina, according to the Maui Police Department. Detectives arrested a 14-year-old Lahaina boy and two 16-year-old boys, one from Wailuku and one from Lahaina, on Monday. The 14-year-old and the Wailuku teen were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault and riot, while the Lahaina teen was arrested on suspicion of riot.
