Maui police officer charged with sexual assault

A 12-year veteran of the Maui Police Department was arrested Monday on a $150,000 warrant and charged with four counts of second-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree sexual assault, according to the Maui Police Department. As previously reported, MPD veteran Devin A. Schoeppner, 49, of Kahului, has been on administrative leave since May 2025, when he was arrested on a charge of first-degree sexual assault. Hearing set on Hoʻonani Village housing project

A public hearing on proposed changes to the Maui Island Plan and Wailuku-Kahului Community Plan for the Hoʻonani Village mixed-use development is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept, 3, online and in the Maui County Council Chamber, according to County Council member Tamara Paltin. Seabury boys, Kamehameha Maui girls atop team scores at Seabury Invitational

Led by junior Silas Miller-Yoder’s finish in 17 minutes, 15 seconds, the Seabury Hall boys cross country team took the top four individual finishes at the school’s invitational Saturday. In the boys team scores, the Spartans with 22 points, 46 ahead of runner-up Maui High. Finishing behind Miller-Yoder were junior teammates Brady Punu (2nd, 17:32) and Remi Kuriger (3rd, 18:23) and senior Brendan Punu (4th, 18:27). County DMVL to close Friday for training

All Maui County Department of Finance Division of Motor Vehicles & Licensing offices will be closed on Friday, Sept. 4, for staff training. Following the Labor Day holiday, offices will resume their regular customer service hours Tuesday, Sept. 8. Customers with questions may call the DMVL Call Center at (808) 270-7363.
