County deploys water tanks in West Kuiaha and Awalau areas; about 200 customers affected

Approximately 200 customers in West Kuiaha and Awalau areas of Haiku have had low water pressure or no water since 11 a.m. Sunday due to a well outage, according to the Maui County Department of Water Supply. Drinking water tanks have been stationed in the area until service is restored. The well is out of service due to major electrical issues impacting its pump, and there is currently no estimated timeline for repair. Water conservation urged in West Kuiaha, Awalau

The Maui County Department of Water Supply is advising those in the West Kuiaha and Awalau areas to conserve water due to a well that is out of service. Those in the affected areas may experience low water pressure or water outages while department crews work to restore service. The department is asking people in the affected areas to limit nonessential water use to help maintain available water service for the community. Potable water tanks will be deployed in the affected areas to provide drinking water while service is being restored.

Public invited to help identify Maui conservation priorities

Maui farmers, ranchers, agricultural leaders, forest landowners and conservation organizations are invited to help identify local natural resource concerns and conservation priorities during a meeting Aug. 26 at the University of Hawaii Maui College. The local working group meeting will be hosted by the Maui Soil & Water Conservation Districts and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service.
