Emalia’s Table online auction underway to support grieving children

Nā Keiki O Emalia’s annual Emalia’s Table fundraiser is underway, with an online auction open through June 19 to support grief services for Maui children and teens who have lost a loved one. The auction features more than 50 items, including dining experiences, adventures, gifts and vacation getaways. Makawao Avenue overnight closures scheduled for waterline repairs

The Maui County Department of Water Supply will close a section of Makawao Avenue between Baldwin Avenue and Makani Road overnight from June 16-18 to conduct waterline repair work. The closure will allow local traffic only from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 16, 17 and 18. During the closure, through traffic will be detoured via Olinda Road, Hanamu Road, Meha Road and Kealaloa Avenue. Brief interruptions to water service may occur during the work period. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and use caution when traveling in the area.

Haiku man killed in motorcycle crash in Makawao

A 48-year-old man from Haiku died in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night in Makawao. Police have identified the man as Jeremy Salinas. The crash occurred at about 10:28 p.m. on Piiholo Road near Mahiai Place. According to Maui police, Salinas was driving a 2006 Honda CRF223F motorcycle north on Piiholo Road when he failed to negotiate a left bend in the road and went up an embankment. Salinas was ejected from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates Salinas was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The ...
