Maui County is asking residents and businesses to report damage from Tropical Storm Lala as officials assess whether the county may qualify for federal disaster assistance. The reports will help document damage to homes, businesses and communities and identify what assistance residents may need, according to the county Office of Recovery and Maui Emergency Management Agency. The East Maui Water Authority has postponed its fiscal year 2027 grant workshop scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Keanae because of impacts from Tropical Storm Lala. A new date will be announced. Both districts of Haleakala National Park remained closed Tuesday while the park began storm damage assessments and recovery. Park officials said the park will reopen when it is safe to do so.
