County seeks reports of damage from Tropical Storm Lala

Maui County is asking residents and businesses to report damage from Tropical Storm Lala as officials assess whether the county may qualify for federal disaster assistance. The reports will help document damage to homes, businesses and communities and identify what assistance residents may need, according to the county Office of Recovery and Maui Emergency Management Agency. East Maui Water Authority postpones Wednesday workshop

The East Maui Water Authority has postponed its fiscal year 2027 grant workshop scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Keanae because of impacts from Tropical Storm Lala. A new date will be announced. Information about the grant process is available at mauicounty.gov/2859/EMWA-Grants-Program. The authority’s next workshop is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the Haiku Community Center.

Haleakala National Park remains closed after Lala

Both districts of Haleakala National Park remained closed Tuesday while the park began storm damage assessments and recovery. Park officials said the park will reopen when it is safe to do so. Maui County public schools to reopen Tuesday

Public schools on Maui, Molokai and Lanai will reopen to students and employees Tuesday following Hurricane Lala, the Hawaii State Department of Education announced Monday night. The department said school leaders, facilities personnel and other designated employees assessed campuses Monday, restored operations and prepared facilities for the return of students and staff.
