Voter service centers open for Aug. 8 primary election

The Maui County Clerk's Office opened its first Voter Service Center on Monday ahead of the Aug. 8 primary election. Additional centers are scheduled to open across Maui County over the next week. Voters may cast ballots in person, register to vote or update their voter registration at the service centers. The Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Sundays, through Aug. 7. Utility work to affect traffic in Kihei

South Kihei Road traffic will be affected Aug. 6-8 while Hawaiian Electric crews install two utility poles and restring power lines damaged during March's Kona low storms. The work will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily along South Kihei Road between Alanui Ke Ali‘i Road and Keonekai Street. A roving lane shift will be in effect, and the bike lane, shoulder and sidewalk in the work area will be closed. Flaggers will direct traffic, pedestrians and cyclists through the area.
