Nightly closure of Piilani Highway in Kaupo revised

To accommodate drivers in the area, the Maui County Department of Public Works has adjusted its closure for a section of the Piilani Highway in Kaupo to start two hours later than originally planned. The section is now closing from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. May 5-8 for road repairs. The plan was to close the route starting at 6 p.m. nightly on those days. The East Maui closure is just past mile marker 28. Motorists are asked to avoid the area during nighttime work hours. The closure is needed due to geotechnical work for the department's Waiopai Embankment Repairs project.

The Maui County Office of Recovery will host a workshop May 7 to help property owners in the Lahaina historic districts navigate the rebuilding process. The workshop will be from 3-5 p.m. at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Morgado Hall and will provide guidance for commercial property owners in Lahaina historic districts 1 and 2, as well as architects, engineers and business owners with coastal or culturally sensitive properties. Deadline extended for Office of Economic Development grant applications

The Maui County Office of Economic Development has extended the application deadline for its grant program for fiscal year 2027 to 5 p.m. May 15. The program supports projects, programs and events that create a positive and sustainable economic impact across the county. Nonprofit and for-profit organizations are eligible to apply. Workshop coming May 14 for county’s Small Grants Program

Maui County has opened applications for its new Small Grants Program, offering up to $30,000 to support projects by nonprofit organizations and community groups.
