Letter: Truly Angel, hope this somehow finds you

My husband and I were in Maui last week with my sister and brother-in-law. We planned a morning hike/picnic at 13 Crossings. My husband and I planned to picnic in the leafy area before the trail began, while my sister and her husband hiked the 13 Crossings. My husband has a fear of heights, and winding, curvy roads with drop-offs are particularly triggering for him. Letter: Phone service in Haiku seems to be substandard?

Fifteen months ago, my copper landline began to deteriorate. The phone either presented very loud noises and wavering buzzing, or did not work at all. (I had no other phone line.) On four separate occasions technicians responded to my calls; arrived to survey the situation; advised me that they no longer maintained such lines; but promised to return shortly to switch me to fiber optics. Letter: Burning so wrong in neighborhood

Did you know that the fire department doesn’t issue or have any control over agriculture burning permits? They are actually issued by the state Department of Health, with basic concerns about smoke. Somehow, this seems so wrong. After all the fires Maui has suffered, my genius neighbors think that burning is the best way to get rid of green waste. Yes, this is an agricultural property of four acres, but also located in a very developed neighborhood. They apparently don’t care about the surrounding neighborhood. We are witnessing the worst and most successful deception of our time. Political leaders, media outlets, and social media have helped to convince a large percentage of the population to fear diversity more than racism, equality more than misogyny, democracy more than fascism, immigrants more than authoritarians, empathy more than cruelty, and the poor more than corrupt billionaires.
