Spirit of giving on Maui is strong

This past August, a terrible fire ravaged Lahaina and homes in Upcountry Maui. In response, the non-profit Ha‘iku Community Association created a Fire Relief Fund. People from all over Maui and the mainland have made about $10,000 in contributions for the benefit of fire victims. The spirit of giving on Maui is strong. Community needs to be Informed what’s going on

Please inform the public about the fires this week in Lahaina. Tuesday night, a teacher’s house got burned down in Lahaina. Then yesterday, there was a fire near Lahainaluna High School, which created a lot of panic among students and faculty. Our community needs to be informed on what’s going on. Violations for all-night parking ridiculous

I have lived on Kauhale Street in Kihei since 1993. Several weeks ago, people up and down the street started to get parking violations for all-night parking. Ordinance 10.48.110 states: “No person shall park a vehicle on any roadway for a period of time longer than sixty minutes between the hours of two a.m. and six a.m. of any day; subject, however, to the exceptions granted authorized emergency vehicles, pursuant to this title.” I am sure not many people on Maui are aware of this ordinance, but I find the enforcement of this on Kauhale Street is ridiculous. Further damaging main source of our revenue?

Our governor is now threatening to further damage the main source of revenue for Maui, tourism, by banning short-term rentals.  While the Democrats try to tell us that democracy is threatened by any consideration of voting for their opposing party, they aren’t afraid to use fascism to solve problems that they have created.  Maui has been short of affordable housing for decades. Some of us think that the fire was avoidable too, if we’d had competent leadership.   But even if you buy the premise that the fire was an unavoidable natural disaster, solving the problem should ...

Quit your sniveling, America. Instead, recognize we’re living in the most spectacular time in history, including our economy, the likes of which the world has never seen before. One recent national gripe is that fast-food prices have risen. Well, boo-hoo. Instead of complaining, anyone can brown-bag lunch, and save themselves money and eat healthier. Instead of spending ridiculous bucks on designer coffee, anyone can brew their own cheaply.
