Lunas sweep Warriors for 1st win of season

Kuha’o Murray had 10 kills and seven digs to help lead the Lahainaluna High School boys volleyball team to its first Maui Interscholastic League win of the season, a 25-19, 25-18, 25-23 victory over Kamehameha Maui on Tuesday night in Lahaina.

Dominador Damaso dished out 10 assists to go with three service aces, and Kaedin Hanohano had 10 digs and an ace for the Lunas, who improved to 1-3 with their sweep of the defending MIL champion Warriors (2-1).

Kamehameha got five kills from Kanekoa Maielua-Kekiwi, eight digs and two aces from Jai Viela, and three kills and six assists from Po’o Aiu.

At Shine Matsui Athletic Center in Kahului, King Kekaulike overcame a spate of injuries and illness and squeaked out a 24-26, 25-21, 29-27, 24-26, 15-12 victory over Maui High.

Tai Wittenberg had 29 kills, Troy Williamson recorded 27 kills and Heldon Hertin had 50 assists, six kills, two blocks and an ace to lead Na Alii (3-1), who took over the top spot in the MIL standings with the win.

From the middle, Sean Nason added nine kills and three blocks, and Wyatt Perry had eight kills and two blocks, while Austin Kepani led Na Alii on defense.

Statistics for the Sabers (1-2) were not reported.
