MIL volleyball: Sabers topple Warriors in 4
The Maui News
The Maui High School girls volleyball team scored a big four-set victory over Kamehameha Schools Maui — 25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22 — on Tuesday night at the Shine Matsui Athletic Center in Kahului.
By handing the Warriors just their second loss of the season, the Sabers upped their record to 5-6 in Maui Interscholastic League Division I play.
With the loss, Kamehameha Maui fell to 9-2 and dropped a half-game behind Baldwin, which improved to 9-1 with a 25-6, 25-8, 25-17 sweep of Lahainaluna on Tuesday night at Jon Garica Gym in Wailuku.
Still, the Warriors control their own destiny for the MIL regular-season crown — they can clinch the title and the state berth that comes with it if they can beat the Bears in the teams’ regular-season finale next Tuesday night at Kaulaheanuiokamoku Gym.
Meanwhile, the Sabers assured themselves of the No. 3 seed for the MIL D-I tournament — they will take on the No. 2 seed in a semifinal on Oct. 24 at Baldwin.
