State, counties to hold COVID briefing

State lawmakers will hold a briefing with the four island counties and the state Department of Health this afternoon to discuss the state’s response to COVID-19 moving forward. The Senate Health Committee and the House Committee on Pandemic and Disaster Preparedness will hold the joint information briefing at 1 p.m. today in Conference Room 225 of the State Capitol and via videoconference. The Maui News Kaunoa Senior Services is seeking volunteers ages 55 and older to help with softball scorekeeping, searching for monk seals and delivering food boxes for keiki, the county announced. Maui jail clear of active COVID cases

The Maui Community Correctional Center was clear of active COVID-19 cases Monday after 10 inmates recovered, the state Department of Public Safety reported. The clearing of cases occurred two months after the first inmate case was reported in early January at the Wailuku jail. At its peak in early February, more than 200 active inmate and employee cases were reported.
