Ige to attend meeting in Washington, D.C.

Gov. David Ige is traveling to Washington, D.C., for the annual National Governors Association 2022 Winter Meeting, the Governor’s Office announced Wednesday. Latest developments: • State Department of Health on Tuesday reported 1,904 new confirmed and probable cases statewide, including 1,445 cases on Oahu, 170 on Maui, 142 on Hawaii island, 90 on Kauai, six on Lanai, two on Molokai and 49 Hawaii residents diagnosed out of state. • There have now been 206,837 confirmed and probable cases statewide, including 145,765 on Oahu, 25,627 in Maui County (24,317 on Maui, 831 on Molokai and 479 on Lanai), 21,863 in Hawaii County and 8,809 on Kauai. 34 inmates recover, active cases at 118

The number of active COVID-19 cases at the Maui Community Correctional Center declined to 114 inmates and four staff after 34 inmates recovered from the virus, the state Department of Public Safety reported Tuesday. Three negative inmate test results were also reported Tuesday, a day after the department reported 65 positive inmate tests and two positive staff member tests, putting the cluster at the Wailuku jail at 155 cases. The cluster had its first inmate case reported Jan. 3 and has already grown bigger than the two outbreaks reported at the jail last year.
