Permit offices closed until further notice

Department of Parks and Recreation permit office windows will be closed until further notice during the ongoing COVID-19 surge, the county announced Wednesday. The temporary closure has been implemented out of an abundance of caution to limit community spread of COVID-19 and the highly contagious omicron variant, the county said. Active staff COVID cases at jail reach 11

Three additional positive COVID-19 test results were reported Wednesday for staff at the Maui Community Correctional Center, raising the number of active employee cases to 11, according to the state Department of Public Safety. Another 43 negative test results were reported for staff, and 45 negative test results were reported for inmates. One inmate remained in medical isolation with COVID-19 at the Wailuku jail.

State signs port agreements with cruise lines; first ship to Kahului Harbor expected Jan. 12

The Maui News The first cruise ship to Kahului Harbor since the pandemic began is expected to arrive on Jan. 12, after the state finalized port agreements with two companies allowing the restart of cruise travel in Hawaii. Port agreements with Carnival Cruise Line and Norwegian Cruise Lines require the companies to have on-board testing and medical capabilities, the state Department of Transportation Harbors Division announced Tuesday.
