The Maui News Applications are being accepted from Native Hawaiians impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic for the ‘Ai Hua food voucher program, funded by a $150,000 Office of Hawaiian Affairs grant and administered by Maui Economic Opportunity. County tax, solid waste payment windows closed

The Maui News In-person payment windows for county real property tax, transient accommodations tax and solid waste bills are temporarily closed because of a surge of COVID-19 cases. At the county Real Property Assessment Division windows at the Service Center in Kahului and Molokai satellite office, in-person service will be offered only by appointment. State suspends jury impaneling

Gov. David Ige has signed an emergency proclamation to temporarily suspend the statutory requirement for the annual initial impaneling of grand juries by Jan. 15, the state announced Tuesday. The temporary suspension gives the courts more time to safely enlist grand juries amid a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, a news release said. The proclamation will remain in effect through March 4 unless terminated or superseded by a separate proclamation.

Jail reports 6 more COVID staff cases

Six new confirmed positive COVID-19 staff cases were reported at the Maui Community Correctional Center, where the staff COVID count was eight on Tuesday, according to the state Department of Public Safety. The Maui News The University of Hawaii women’s basketball team’s game against Long Beach State, scheduled for Thursday, has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Rainbow Wahine program. UH announced the cancellation Tuesday. The game has been declared a no-contest. The status of Saturday’s game against Cal State Fullerton at SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center has yet to be determined.
