Keawala‘i Congregational Church will host a concert by participants in virtuoso guitarist Ben Verdery’s master class at 7 p.m. Wednesday, the church announced. Verdery is holding his 24th classical guitar master class on Maui through Thursday, with concerts and classes taking place throughout the week at various locations on the island. The 2023 Keawala‘i Outreach Golf Tournament will be held at the Makena Golf and Beach Club on July 23, with shotgun at 12 p.m., Keawala‘i Congregational Church announced. The tournament will have a scramble format, with space for 72 golfers. Food and refreshments will be provided by Makena throughout the day, along with pupus following play at 4 p.m. Registration is $250 per player. Lahaina Jodo Mission will celebrate its first public Obon Festival since the pandemic on July 1. The Obon service will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by a floating lanterns procession and ceremony around 7:30 p.m. Maui Taiko will offer a performance in the temple courtyard before the bon dance, which will start around 8 p.m. Food concessions will open at 5:30 p.m. with local favorites including rolled sushi, chow fun, teriyaki beef plate, shave ice and more.
