Man charged with using knife on police
A 30-year-old man was arrested last week after he allegedly threatened three police officers with a knife as they were arresting him on a warrant.
Joseph Scott of Makawao was charged with three counts each of first-degree terroristic threatening and attempted first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, as well as resisting arrest. His bail was set at $10,000.
At about 4 p.m. Wednesday, officers were looking for Scott after receiving information that he might be in an undeveloped field on Hookele Street near Hana Highway in Kahului, according to police. Officers found Scott in an abandoned van off Hookele Street.
As officers tried to arrest Scott, he pulled out a silver pocket knife with a 3-inch blade and pointed it at the officers, police said. The officers struggled with Scott and were able to disarm him, police said.
The officers weren’t injured.
Scott is set to be arraigned Wednesday on charges of second-degree theft and habitual property crime for allegedly stealing more than $750 in cash from the 76 gas station in Lahaina on March 15. His bail is set at $10,000 in that case.
