Maui beer shows off new look
Kihei-based Maui Brewing Co. has unveiled new packaging and branding for its line of locally produced beer.
The company, which is on pace to brew 46,000 barrels this year, contracted with The Butler Bros of Austin, Texas, to lead the branding update and redesign of the packaging, the company said in a news release. The Butler Bros officials visited Maui, immersing themselves in the Maui Brewing Co.’s culture and family, which includes 96 employees, and collaborating with Polynesian tattoo artist Orly Locquiao to create icons for its Bikini Blonde Lager, Pineapple Mana Wheat, Coconut Hiwa Porter, Big Swell IPA and Island Root beers.
The new design establishes a structured, unified look for all the beers that will allow the brewery’s marketing team to maintain the brand over time, the brewery said in a news release last week.
“While demonstrating a clear visual change, our refreshed brand represents our solid foundation and continues the MBC legacy without losing our heritage or the power of our logo recognition that has been built over the past decade,” brewery CEO Garrett Marrero said.
The brewery also revamped its website, mauibrewingco.com. Webmaster Services Hawaii designed the new look with an eye toward improving navigation for finding the latest information about the beers, the brewpub and events, according to the brewery. The website includes a digital “beer finder” for those searching for Maui Brewing Co. beers in restaurants and retailers.
Maui Brewing Co., the state’s largest craft brewery, was founded in 2005. The brewery has a production brewery and tasting room in Kihei and a brewpub in Kahana, with another one on the way in Waikiki. Maui Brewing Co. products are available in 17 states and 13 countries.
