The University of Hawaii Sea Grant program and partners are holding an environmentally focused gathering at Kapukaulua (Baldwin Beach) on April 20 in celebration of Earth Day week.
According to organizers, the gathering will share updates on the Kapukaulua Dune Restoration Project, discuss the science behind and the importance of dune restoration, and offer hands-on opportunities to enhance and learn more about the local ecosystems.
Participants will learn about the progress of dune restoration, coastal resilience efforts and ongoing stewardship activities.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in a demonstration on water quality testing by the Haiku Community Association’s Haiku Streams Project and to grow their knowledge of watersheds and dune systems through fun activities.
Attendees are encouraged to bring questions, as well as a reusable mug, water, a beach chair or blanket, and sunscreen.
Other upcoming community events include a World Environment Day beach cleanup with the Maui Surfrider Foundation on June 5 and a two-year planting celebration and stewardship showcase on Oct. 24.
