UHERO forecasts slower Hawaii growth amid high oil prices, storms
Surging fuel costs and a parade of storms have slowed Hawaii’s economy this year, though relief is expected to come gradually, according to the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization. Construction Industry of Maui Golf Tournament raises nearly $60,000 for vocational programs
The Construction Industry of Maui’s fourth annual golf tournament raised nearly $60,000 to support construction vocational programs in Maui County, according to event organizers. The tournament on Sept. 19 at The Dunes at Maui Lani Golf Course was organized to help develop the next generation of construction industry workers. Proceeds will support vocational programs at Maui County high schools and other educational institutions, helping students explore careers in the construction trades. Upper Kula water conservation extended
The Maui County Department of Water Supply is extending its request for residents, visitors and businesses in Upper Kula to conserve water through Sept. 28 while crews repair a broken water line serving the area. The request applies to the area from Upper Kimo Drive to Kanaio. Water users are being asked to limit consumption to essential needs, including drinking, cooking and hygiene.
