Police identify 18-year-old killed in Sept. 23 wreck on Honoapiilani Highway
An 18-year-old man from Lahaina died in a single-vehicle wreck Sept. 23 on Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina. Police identified the man as Manuel Olivas on Tuesday. The wreck happened at about 1:33 a.m. near the highway’s intersection with Kaanapali Parkway. Police said Olivas was driving a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado south on Honoapiilani Highway in the inner lane at high speed when he lost control of the vehicle. Planning Department to hold public meetings for Maui SMA boundary
The Maui County Planning Department will host a series of public meetings this month in East Maui, on the North Shore and in South Maui regarding a new Special Management Area boundary for the island of Maui. The Planning Department is assessing the existing SMA boundary for the island of Maui. The SMA was established in the 1970s, and work is underway to develop recommendations for a scientific and culturally based inland SMA boundary.
