Avis employees donate supplies to Maui Humane Society

Employees at Avis at Kahului Airport recently collected 148 items for Maui Humane Society as part of a donation drive marking the rental car company’s 80th anniversary. The two-week drive nearly doubled the team’s original goal of collecting 80 items. Donations included toys, animal care products and other supplies for shelter animals awaiting adoption. “We have a lot of pet lovers, so it was a big, huge thing for us to support the shelter,” said Antoinette Campbell, a 10-year Avis employee who helped organize the effort. Pedestrian killed Wednesday night on Kaahumanu Avenue

A 61-year-old woman from Wailuku suffered fatal injuries when she was hit by a vehicle while crossing Kaahumanu Avenue on foot Wednesday night in Kahului. According to Maui police, the woman was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by a 70-year-old man, also from Wailuku. Police said the collision happened as the man was headed east approaching the intersection with South Wakea Avenue.
