Paʻūpili 3rd Saturday set for June 20 in Lahaina

The Maui Economic Recovery Commission will host its monthly Paʻūpili 3rd Saturday event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 20 at Lahaina United Methodist Church. The free community gathering is part of an ongoing series focused on healing, connection and resilience for Lahaina residents impacted by the 2023 Maui wildfires. Organizers said the event brings together local businesses, cultural practitioners, artists and community organizations to provide opportunities for gathering, creativity and support. Waterline work to affect Makawao Avenue traffic, water service

A scheduled waterline repair project will result in overnight partial road closures and possible water service interruptions on Makawao Avenue between Baldwin Avenue and Makani Road from June 21-24. The work is scheduled from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on June 21-22, June 22-23 and June 23-24. During construction, the road will be limited to local traffic only. Free spay and neuter clinics planned on Maui

Maui Humane Society and Greater Good Charities will host two free spay and neuter clinics this month aimed at sterilizing hundreds of cats and dogs across Maui. The first clinic, for cats and dogs, will be June 18-20 at the Maui Preparatory Academy gymnasium in Lahaina. Dog owners must schedule appointments through mauihumanesociety.org/ggc-lahaina. Two rescued after being swept into ocean at La Perouse Bay

Two people were rescued Saturday afternoon after being swept off a rocky shoreline by large surf at the south end of La Perouse Bay in South Maui. Maui firefighters and ocean safety personnel responded at about 4:17 p.m. to the Hanamanioa Lighthouse area after receiving reports that two people had been swept into the water. A woman who suffered a head laceration was picked up from the water by an ocean safety jet ski and taken to shore, where she was turned over to emergency medical personnel.
