Free spay and neuter clinics planned on Maui

Maui Humane Society and Greater Good Charities will host two free spay and neuter clinics this month aimed at sterilizing hundreds of cats and dogs across Maui. The first clinic, for cats and dogs, will be June 18-20 at the Maui Preparatory Academy gymnasium in Lahaina. Dog owners must schedule appointments through mauihumanesociety.org/ggc-lahaina. Cat surgeries will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis without appointments. Check-in runs from 7 to 10 a.m. daily or until capacity is reached. Two rescued after being swept into ocean at La Perouse Bay

Two people were rescued Saturday afternoon after being swept off a rocky shoreline by large surf at the south end of La Perouse Bay in South Maui. Maui firefighters and ocean safety personnel responded at about 4:17 p.m. to the Hanamanioa Lighthouse area after receiving reports that two people had been swept into the water. A woman who suffered a head laceration was picked up from the water by an ocean safety jet ski and taken to shore, where she was turned over to emergency medical personnel. SBA extends disaster loan deadline for March storm recovery

The U.S. Small Business Administration has extended the deadline for homeowners, renters, businesses and private nonprofit organizations affected by Hawaii's March severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides to apply for physical disaster loans. The new deadline to apply for physical damage loans is Aug. 13. The loans are available to those impacted by the disaster that occurred March 10-24 in Hawaii, Maui and Honolulu counties.
