Injured hiker airlifted from Haleakala
A 27-year-old woman was airlifted from Haleakala National Park on June 26 after hurting her ankle while hiking, according to the Maui County Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 4:12 p.m. to a report of an injured hiker at the Paliku campsite within the park. Air 1 was used to lift the hiker from the area of the Paliku cabins and transport her to a landing zone at Hosmer Grove, where she was turned over to emergency medical personnel for further evaluation, the department said. Engine 13 and Rescue 10 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident, which concluded at 6:20 p.m.
Maui County offices to close July 3 for holiday
Maui County offices, facilities and services will be closed or modified July 3 in observance of the Fourth of July holiday. Closures include all Maui County offices and pools, the Lahaina Resource Center at Lahaina Gateway, the Recovery Permit Center at the Maui County Service Center in Kahului, and the Hana, Molokai and Lanai landfills. Hawaii could receive 1 million eggs in price-fixing settlement
Hawaii could receive about 1 million eggs for local food banks as part of a nationwide egg price-fixing settlement involving some of the nation’s largest egg producers, according to state Attorney General Anne Lopez. On Monday, Lopez announced securing a settlement that includes 53 million eggs for consumers nationwide and $3.3 million from Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum and Hickman’s Egg Ranch.
