Youths receive confirmationBishop Larry Silva of the Diocese of Honolulu led a Mass celebration at Maria Lanakila Parish in Lahaina on Aug. 19 as 14 youths received the Sacrament of Confirmation, and new sisters from the Missionaries of Faith were formally welcomed and blessed by the bishop. Jews observe Tisha B’Av this weekend

The Jewish Congregation of Maui will observe Tisha B'Av, the Ninth of Av, from sundown on Saturday until after dark on Sunday.On the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av in 586 B.C., the first great holy temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by invading Babylonians. Seventy years later, the second holy temple was erected. Almost 600 years later, once again on the ninth day of the Jewish month of Av, in 70 A.D., the Romans sacked and destroyed the second temple. New priest to lead Hawaiian service

The Rev. John Hau'oli Tomoso, will be the principal celebrant at the 9 a.m. Holy Eucharist at Trinity Episcopal Church by the Sea's monthly Hawaiian service Sunday. The concelebrant will be Vicar Bruce DeGooyer.The church is located at 100 Kulanihakoi St. in Kihei, within the ruins of the historic 1852 Kilolani Church that was founded by David Malo - the third Native Hawaiian to be ordained in the Christian ministry.
