Letter: Who will end up paying the price?

University of Colorado head coach Deion Sanders has a famous saying, “I keep receipts.” He is referring to people saying negative things about him and the Colorado football team. This presidential election was brutal. There were some very negative statements made about Trump. Now, he will be president, with a Republican house and senate majority. I hope Trump and Congress does keep receipts on what people said during this election. The U.S. president is a very powerful person. You have to consider what could be the consequences if you say negative things about him and who will ...

Letter: Airwaves now heavily controlled by right wing

Ask the average Trump voter where they get their news from and the top answers will be Fox, Newsmax, One America and Elon Musk’s X. Main stream media has been discredited and people now believe these so-called news sources are more reliable. They don’t see the lies and distortion being fed to them because that’s all they listen to. They really think the economy is in the tank, Christianity is under attack, 2020 election was stolen, Kamala has low IQ, all liberals are communists, plus everything else the talking head moderator says. My point, Trump won for one reason only, ...

Letter: Voters were warned, but played by right

The American people just left a terrible legacy to their children and grandchildren. It is so sad that they let themselves be played by Fox News, Russian trolls and crazy conspiracy theorists. Vladimir Putin’s playbook has been to sow division for years. He could barely restrain his glee when commenting on Donald Trump’s win. Democracy is imperfect. Republicans have always had different views of governance which is their right. But I am sorry, Trump is not the answer. Liz Cheney and many other experienced competent Republicans did the patriotic thing and told themselves ...

Letter: STR ban would put our company out of business

I am part owner of a small family-owned property management company on the west side my mom started 50 years ago. Clearly, myself and all of our employees and vendors are concerned with the possibility of the pending STR ban, as it would put our company out of business and many people I love out of work. Not only do we manage short-term rentals but long-term as well, and we are struggling to find tenants, believe it or not. Add to that the fact most, if not all, condos have recently had their fees go up anywhere from 35-150 percent, the amount we need to break even. It is simply ...

Letter: Rethink tactic next time workers have to strike

While I am certainly sympathetic to the demands of the strikers, I am also grateful to those nurses and others who were sent from the mainland to keep the island’s only full-service hospital functioning during the strike. I had to bring my wife to the emergency room Wednesday evening while the demonstrators were still present, chanting, yelling and waving their signs while marching along the sidewalk and spilling off the sidewalk and into the street at times. I wasn’t surprised to see the driveway to the main entrance of the hospital obstructed and at times completely blocked by ...

Letter: Some homeowners sell because of the tenants

When speaking about the housing crisis, most fail to state responsibilities that fall upon the renters. Many renters destroy rentals and then leave with no recourse available to owners. These people have no shame and the “system” is protecting them. This issue is avoided because of fear of hurting people’s feelings, but that is ridiculous. None of these homeowners have anything to do with anyone’s situation and the circumstances that caused them to need housing. Rents of $3,000 or more force multiple families into a home. Overcrowding will lead to damage and other ...
