Princess Nahienaena 1st-grader Mika Hyytia, 6, shreds a wave at Lahaina Breakwall on Friday afternoon while surfing with his mom, Natalie Hyytia. “I’m so proud of you,” she said as they paddled in. “You were charging those huge waves outside.”

Natalie Hyytia points out a small plane for son, Mika, while they surf Friday. She said with school out, the ocean was proving to be a good classroom. “We’re getting healthy exercise and learning about the waves and marine environment.”
