Wailuku Elementary School fourth grader Lawai’a Bonofiglio-Kaneakua, 10, jumps into a shallow tide pool at Ho’okipa Tuesday morning during a rain squall. Mom Monica Bonofiglio said neither the dreary conditions, nor the fact that his siblings didn’t want to swim could keep Lawai’a out of the water. “Shallow and all, rain or shine,” she said. “He grew up fishing and swimming down here.” The family was celebrating the 14th birthday of Lawai’a’s brother, Manakai Bonofiglio-Kaneakua. Also in on the fun were their sisters Naiomi and Napua.
