Residents will have the opportunity to learn about newly developed topics and participate in a hands-on community design workshop during two open houses facilitated by the county’s planning department.

The gatherings from 6-8 p.m. July 17 and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 19 will be at the University of Hawai’i Maui College’s Pilina Event Center.

According to the county, the new community plan will update and replace the existing 2002 Wailuku-Kahului Community Plan. The process involves community meetings and workshops, followed by review from an advisory committee and the Maui planning commission. The final plan will then be considered and adopted by ordinance through the Maui County Council.
