Haiku man killed in motorcycle crash in Makawao

A 48-year-old man from Haiku died in a motorcycle crash Wednesday night in Makawao. Police have identified the man as Jeremy Salinas. The crash occurred at about 10:28 p.m. on Piiholo Road near Mahiai Place. According to Maui police, Salinas was driving a 2006 Honda CRF223F motorcycle north on Piiholo Road when he failed to negotiate a left bend in the road and went up an embankment. A two-day enforcement operation at Home Depot in Wailuku resulted in multiple arrests related to shoplifting, drug offenses and other crimes, according to the Maui Police Department. Police: Haiku couple car-jacked by armed man on Hana Highway

A Haiku couple was treated for minor injuries after an armed robbery Wednesday morning near Hoʻokipa Beach Park, according to Maui police. Police said officers responded at about 5:27 a.m. to a report of a first-degree robbery on Hana Highway near the park. A preliminary investigation found that a 46-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, both of Haiku, were confronted by an unknown man armed with a handgun.
